It's that time of the summer where my family and I venture out to the island off & on for a few weeks. Jumping in the salty waves and relaxing in the hazy lazy days of summer is just the medicine I need right now. Whenever we go out there, I always bring a few art supplies to play with, in case I feel inspired (which I usually do. For this trip, I'm bring a new art journal and an art tool roll that I recently made...
There are 13 pockets sewn in to hold an assortment of paint brushes, pencils, pens, an eraser, a feather and anything else I can fit in there...
This little roll measures about 10 inches high and 16 inches long. I made my own fabric from my watercolor feathers and sewed a quilted stripe with a bit of canvas drop cloth I had left over from my recent couch revamp. Inside, I made pockets from a denim chambray and edged the top of the pockets with a vintage chartreuse cotton twill tape that was gifted to me from my mother-in-law. I left an extra 12 inches of the twill tape at the end so the roll can be securely closed. This project took about two hours from start to finish (including "breaks" in sewing to tend to my girls: play referee of couch + floor wrestling).
The art journal was purchased here and is a perfect blank canvas to personalize any way you wish. For this journal, I glued on a patch of fabric that I made from one of my seashell watercolors. The word SKETCH was stamped in little letters at the top.
Well, I'm off! I will see you back here in a few weeks to share some summer memories and maybe a sketch or two...
